Irrawaddy map and the sources of the river in Kachin State

Since it is not possible to exactly define the source of the Irrawaddy river, there are too many, the authorities declared the confluence of the N'mai and Mali River in Kachin State as the source.

permanent snow and glacier

During colonial times several adventurers and botanists try to explore the area they had only moderate success. This is a very wild area only in recent years Chinese poachers try to destroy this pristine place by cutting large amount of trees which leaves whole mountains and valleys clear-cut  of trees.
