Yangon bars, pubs and nightlife

Western style bars are mainly in the big hotels.

Places where you can sit at the counter and the beer flows are primarily in the major hotels, in the country a lounge environment is rather common. As a general rule be aware that the hygienic environment in this scene (except at the places we list here on this page) are catastrophic. 

That means visiting other places be extremly careful > dont eat anything and only drink from a bottle which was opened in front of you. A typical place of the negative version is the 19th Street and around at Mahabandoola in Chinatown which is a local version of Khao San Road in Bangkok.
   
 *A genuine pub style environment is the Paddy O'Malley's Irish Pub in the Sedona Hotel, 1 Kabar Aye Pagoda Rd., Tel: (95) 1 860 5377.

This is one of the prefabricated set up's but quite ok. Sometimes they also let some local ladies sit around but nothing organized. 

*A pleasant conservative styled one is the Gallery Bar in the Shangri La Sule Hotel. This places to enjoy a nice evening are almost only in the big hotels there are no real quarters with beer bars around such as in Soho London or Schwabing in Munich, it's a different lifestyle.

Places where you sit at the bar drink a beer, some whisky, wine or whatever are not so many. In the country the usual place is a lounge, mostly connected with a theme, let's make a "fashion show", some girls around and a nightclub with dancing. Maybe a crossover restaurant as the one pictured below. 

* Another good location to visit a stylish beer source, all (made from teak) source with a German touch is in the Savoy Hotel. A pretty rather small place with excellent snacks and if you like German beer, the place is a bit north of the Shwedagon Pagoda.  

* The picture below is from Power Light Entertainment, this is a fusion of a restaurant and a bar / nightclub.

This nice place is near Kandawgyi Lake and they have pretty young Burmese ladies who entertain the guests. There is also something to eat and excellent Myanmar and Mandalay Beer to drink

Discos, pool bars and karaoke having the theme music or girls or both, there is always some additional business available, people must live from something.

Here is a pub with various local beers, pool tables and darts, there is also other entertainment around, next door is the disco pictured above. This and more is on a plaza yard in front of the International Hotel at Ahlon Road, actually this is a lively nightlife cluster with several restaurants, more bars and music lounges.
