Pathein

This was once a very important harbor city of the British.

Their ships came in from Calcutta and Madras to Pathein (Bassein) on the way down south to Penang, today this is Myanmar’s fifth largest city on the west side of the Ayeyarwady Delta (fourth largest is Mawlamyine)  on the east side of the Irrawaddy Delta about 120 kilometers west of Yangon.

A river ferry to Pathein

When on a trip to the beaches at Ngwe Saung and Chaung Thar it needs to pass through. The place is a pretty one and visually quite attractive since nothing much has changed since the British left but compared to Yangon City it is amazingly clean, just make a stop at the riverside it’s worth it you can breathe colonial time.
