A elephant ride is always something special and here a new touristic activity was born.
They do elephant rides in every tourist spot in Thailand, in Myanmar it's only limited to three officially, one is Alaungdaw Kathapa National Park near Monywa. This is the biggest National Park in the country and not far off from Mandalay. The first part from Mandalay to Monywa makes no problem but from there further north west starts to be a challenge but the reward are some great days in untouched nature.
For a day-trip it's not suitable, dont do this on your own otherwise plenty of very time consuming problems will appear. Although the tour is not cheap but it's worth is, that's a experience of a lifetime.
