Round Trip  Yangon - Bagan - Heho - Pindaya - Inle Lake and back


DAY 1: Arrival at Yangon International Airport and transfer to hotel by bus. A afternoon orientation trip includes the old English style city center, the golden Sule Pagoda in the City Center, some people tell it's over 2,000 years old, but there is no evidence and the Kandawgyi (botanical garden) Lake with the Karaweik Hall, a floating barge of the olden days, today a restaurant and visiting Bogyoke Market.

This is an ideal spot for pictures of the lake and the nature around, in the background the Shwedagon Pagoda is visible. The shrine platform is the next destination, this is one of the most spectacular sacred monument on earth with almost 100 meters height covered with gold sheets of around 60 tons. Dinner and overnight at the booked hotel.

Yangon - Bagan

DAY 2: Transfer to Yangon Airport for the Bagan flight. After arrival, transfer to hotel and starting the first sightseeing tour at a local market visiting the most important pagodas and temples such as the Shwezigon Pagoda built under by King Anawrahta in the early 11th century, proceeding to Gu Byauk Gyi temple with Jataka stories (depicting Buddha's Life) and pretty mural or wall painting scenes, Khay min ga temple with a spectacular panoramic view and the biggest of all, the Ananda Temple with its four huge standing Buddha statues and other interesting art work to be see.

After lunch a peep into the local cottage industry in form of a lacquer workshop in nearby Myinkaba is on the plan. The tour continues to Manuha Temple built in Mon style in 1059, with a huge reclining Buddha closeby. The Myingaba Gu Byaukgyi Temple has great ancient mural paintings. In the late afternoon a sunset cruise on the Irrawaddy or Ayeyarwady River will be a real highlight, dinner and overnight stay in Bagan, see travel pictures here.

Bagan - Heho - Pindaya - Inle Lake

DAY 3: Flight to Heho. Upon arrival in Heho, proceeding by road to Pindaya Caves (65 km)  the caves are almost totally filled up with thousands of Buddha sculptures which pilgrims brought here over many centuries. Lunch at a local restaurant and after driving by road to Inle Lake, about 90 km and by boat to the hotel on or in the lake, dinner and overnight there.

DAY 4: A boat excursion on the scenic lake watching leg rowers, floating gardens (they harvest 3 times per year), cone fishing and village life, lunch at a local restaurant and maybe a visit to the monastery of the jumping cats. Further visiting the Phaung daw Oo Pagoda and some local handicraft shops where they ironworks and textiles. Dinner and overnight on the lake.

Inle Lake - Heho - Yangon

DAY 5: In the morning visiting the 5 day market with very colorful local people, then back to Heho Airport and Yangon. It is advisable to add at least 2 days in Yangon before leaving, see Bogyoke Market.
