Some travel insurance information is here and better take it serious
since this is a totally different environment, here are some travel insurance information. With a bit of an adventure spirit you might choose to travel to Myanmar, this is the current "in" destination for backpacker and culture oriented people. There are plenty of new perspectives and adventure, now everyone know what happen at this trips, there is some risk and bang something happen.
Accidents happen, thats the nature of them
one particular occurred to me already two times, once when I walked on a wooden board to enter the boat it broke and I fell down luckily I fell in the shallow water and got a few bruises only.
A other time I slid in the wet market and that didn't look good at all I had to visit an emergency clinic and that was over $ 200,- for the whole with x-ray etc.
Anyway what is the result? Traveling in countries like this means make a good risk cover before you leave and when you are on a package trip you start with a local agent be aware that all of them have no insurance at all only when you come in on a package with a foreign operator they take care. Risks when travel like lost luggage, flight cancellations, reservation , things disappear, theft and many other possible problems can happen everywhere whole world.
But in Burma there is one particular subject to consider and this is that the health system is on a very low level so if something serious happen the first is get out of the country, maybe to Thailand, Air Asia has a good coverage for this when taking their flights.
If you are on a budget take a cheap backpacker version which also cover the usual things.
There are some clinics and hospitals in all parts of the country but the standard is very poor. In Yangon two are quite ok, this is the Bahosi Hospital in the city center and the Pun Hlaing International a bit outside the city, this one is probably the most modern in the country.
Now all this costs quite some money and it is not very likely that you have this cash with you, no credit cards are used over there, all this virtually screams after a company who backs you up when you are in trouble, here are a few parameter which should be covered as a basic:
Cancellations or Delays
If for any reason (beyond your control) if your journey is cancelled or delayed they will provide you with financial help. This includes coverage if your airline goes bankrupt or out of service, either compensate you for the money you lost or provide you with new means of transportation.
Theft
If anything belonging to you is stolen while you are on vacation, they will provide you with financial assistance to replace the items which were stolen.
Damage or Loss of Personal Property
This is likely to happen while on a trip. If your luggage is lost or damaged they will definitely cover at least some percentage of the property that is missing. Depending on the plan, it may financially cover all the items that are missing.
Lost Passport
If you lose your passport or it is stolen while you are on a journey, they will provide you with the means to get a temporary one. Your travel insurance company will inform you on how to get in contact with your country embassy so that you can arrange to receive a temporary ID. All this will cost less than you think.
Now where to go in case of needed
