Myanmar is a purely agricultural country
in the 18th Century there were so attempts by then King Mindon to move away from this to diversify but all this has been blocked by the English colonialists who tried to keep the country for their needs and this was agriculture oriented. Even today this one-sided orientation from such a long time ago is responsible for most of the problems people suffer.
They even sent their king and queen into exile to India which finally brought the Burmese to their knees.
